Ben's double life continues at the Royal Institute of Magic. To most, he's a talented apprentice and an exceptional spell shooter, but Ben is also a Guardian, responsible for uniting Elizabeth's Armour, the only artefact powerful enough to overthrow the evil dark elves.
With two pieces of the armour secure, finding the third may be Ben's toughest challenge yet. His only clue is a magical key, a tenuous link to a legend called the Silver Dwarf.
With the dark elves slowly conquering the Unseen Kingdoms, Ben races against time to gather the pieces of armour and unite the Guardians entrusted with them. If that wasn't hard enough, new challenges and old enemies await him at the Institute, and his friendship will be tested like never before.
The Silver Dwarf is the fourth book in the Royal Institute of Magic series.
The Silver Dwarf Royal Institute of Magic Book 4 edition by Victor Kloss Children eBooks
I was just beginning to read The Siver Dwarf, and enjoying it just as much as the previous three books when I received an email from Tara, Victor's wife. Sadly, on November 5, 2016 he passed on. Being part of an email list, I can only imagine the shock and sorrow felt for this great writer, his family and close friends. He will be missed by all. He was in the middle of his final book six when he passed away after a long fight.I truly believe the world has lost a great writer, very much in the mold of J.R.R Tolkien, Terry Brooks and J.K. Rowling for just a few. The best thing you can do is to keep buying and enjoying his works, telling others about them or giving them as gifts. I can only believe that some day his daughter may grow to know and understand her father through his writing. I can't help but think he created this wonderful world in his books in part for her.
And of course, if you haven't tried this series of The Royal Institute of Magic, please, please give them a try. They really are a great story which Mr. Kloss was so brave in trying to finish. From what his wife says, they will be getting a great writer ( much in the same spirit ) to finish his last book. Mr. Kloss left notes and guidelines for this purpose I believe. Personally, I will miss his stories as well as his personal contact with his fans. He was great about that. It's amazing that he found time for that with all he was going through. He will be missed.

The Silver Dwarf Royal Institute of Magic Book 4 edition by Victor Kloss Children eBooks Reviews
This book is the latest in an excellent series, and I can't seem to put them down when I get each one on my tablet! The world is fully developed and mixing "real" world places with the "unseen" world makes the whole story more 'believable' in my opinion. "The Silver Dwarf" is fourth in the series & picks up with continuing (and surprising!) regular world education and of course, the hunt for the rest of Elizabeth's Armor.
I discovered these books as an adult, not realizing at first they were supposed to be for young adults; but I can honestly say that they are unusual and engrossing enough for adults! Definitely worth trying these out- especially if you're young at heart!
Dear Victor Kloss,
You did it again and in my opinion, "you knocked it out of the park", I enjoyed The Silver Dwarf so much that I hated it when I came to the end and had no more to read!! Thank goodness you think you will have book 5 out this year around the fall. I can't wait.
Your older fan,
Karen S Sayre
I've written positive reviews for the other books in this series and again, I really enjoyed this one as well! Mr. Kloss gives the feel of his characters, their lives and environs in a convincing manner, with the details in place that make it believable. In this installment, Ben and Charlie go to new and crazy places, and collect new friends and enemies. We are still waiting on word from Ben's parents, although the plot continues to leave hints about their whereabouts and situation. I did not like the mini cliffhanger at the end, and would have liked some resolution regarding the Aaron situation, specifically a turd in the face ;) also the prep for the game and the time spent o thinking about it, working towards it, and actually playing it, detracted from the whole storyline for me. But in short, book four, like those before it, is a terrific kidventure and a great read for all ages!
I'm enjoying this series and this book adds a deeper dimension to the fight and the characters as they mature. I understand the comparisons to the Harry Potter series, but even though there are similar issues, they are very different in the way they are handled and the way in which they originated, so I can overlook those similarities. I like the characters and find the story compelling enough to keep me reading! The writing is good, but not epic, but written as any good storyteller would write. I like it. The books are not wrought with meaning or for those who only read deep, dramatic tales. But if you're looking for a nice distraction from your day, like a little adventure but not graphic violence, you just might enjoy this series. And it is a series, so you'll need to start at the beginning. The Silver Dwarf is the 4th book.
I raised 5 children (and was a teachers aide) and I made it a practice to read what they had been assigned in school, along with borrowing the favorite books from my kids who liked to read and finding books that might spark some interest in those who didn't enjoy it. Then we would read together and talk about the books. That is how I discovered that there are some amazing young adult and "tween" authors out there. My kids are grown, but I am still reading books for every age group. I stumbled upon this series and absolutely love it. I think it would be enjoyed equally by boys and girls. I loved the Harry Potter books, but they were terribly long for kids (& adults) who weren't that "into" reading. I think these would appeal to anyone who like a great fast-paced story with a lot of depth (I feel like I know these characters!) without lengthy, supremely boring descriptions of a flower field or a character's deepest darkest memories from birth on. They're just fun, exciting and a great read. What more could you ask for.
I bought these five books on after hearing the story of the author. My son (12y) and I both enjoyed them very much! The storytelling is engaging, the characters are relatable, and it's hard to put the books down! I highly recommend these. I can't wait until the family of the late author is able to arrange for publication of the sixth book. While the writing isn't quite as "perfect" as J.K. Rowling, who virtually never missed a thing, if you enjoyed Harry Potter, you will enjoy these. They are much less coarse than the Percy Jackson books, and the author has clearly thought deeply about the backstory of each character and event. The shame is that, unlike JKR, he won't be here to explain all of that and fix minor inconsistencies like JKR has done. Still, I read he left an outline and extensive notes to help the writer of book six, so perhaps that person will be able to bring the details of the Unseen Kingdoms to life in other ways after the sixth book is complete.
