I bought Wingman in 1990 at an airport shop in Shreveport, LA. I needed a book for a flight to LA and this seemed the only one there I could read.Wotta great choice!
The intervening 12 years brought us 15 more. Then, a hiatus occurred with Chopper Ops. That series never quite hit its stride, though I'm the first to admit that Shuttle Down came close to matching the Hawk Hunter/Ryder Long adventure index.
But, Star Hawk Rocks!
With a strong improvement in style and narrative, better characterization, continued control of the babe count, and a hint of one goddam fantatstic story line, Mack Maloney grabbed me a page 1 and held me through the end on page 267.
The story finds Hawk lost again, but still on his quest for his peace of mond. But, it's not on a war-ravaged earth or alternative earth. This time, it's a war-ravaged galaxy, where deep secrets are being kept by everyone. Hawk is/will be the catalyst for change.
While it stands alone, knowledge of the other stories only makes the enjoyment of this one richer.
Hey, anyone think that Colonel Long may have been involved with the lighthouse or home?

Mack Maloney has done it again another wonderful series continues with Hunter at center stage doing his thing as only he can do .Full of lovely women and intriguing action. Again you will have read this series. Falcon
Was the author's wife sleeping with the publisher's brother-in-law or what?
"Erx" and "Berx" galactically renowned explorers? What, that's a joke, right?
Erx's and Berx's ears bleed because of the severity of the "multiple sonic booms" caused by the ship they are in? Another joke, right?
a. A vehicle exceeding the local speed of sound creates a shock wave that is experienced on the ground (usually)as a "boom" as the shock wave (singular) passes the observer. One vehicle cannot produce multiple "sonic booms" (a misnomer anyway).
b. If you read the above, you will notice that anyone inside the vehicle that is exceeding the local speed of sound is moving with the shock wave at the same speed, and it doesn't pass over them. It is physically impossible for anyone inside the vehicle creating the shock wave to experience the effect of the shock wave passing them. They will never hear it. They cannot. It can't happen. Get it?
Mack Baloney, oops, Maloney couldn't write his way out of a wet, paper grocery bag if this is any example of his talent. What combination of morons allowed this to be published in the first place and then converted to format?
I quit reading this trash at location 344, and dumped it from local memory.

Mack Maloney is one of my favorite authors. I love the way he weaves a story. I very much enjoyed this book and purchased all the other "Star Hawk" series. I like the way he presents his hero, "Hawk Hunter". He doesn't make him so perfect that he becomes an unbelievable character. His fight for freedom always resonates with me. It's simply a fun read.

I have read these series of books and the wingman series, war haven, and i have never been disappointed. Until now, i have had to buy several books over and over because they have warn out due to reading so many times. Now that its on my kindle, i dont have to worry about books anymore.
